Dear Writer: You Are Not Behind
Posted By: JODY DYER
If you have been staring at your manuscript, your blinking cursor, or a blank page and wondering if you will ever finish this book, you are not alone.
And you are not behind.
Whether you are writing a book, a blog post, an email to a podcast host, or a proposal to be a speaker, your timing is not off. You are right where you are meant to be.
Writing is not a conveyor belt. It does not move at the same speed for every person. Some stories take time. Some messages need to live inside you for a little while before they are ready to come out. Sometimes, life needs to stretch you before you can say what needs to be said.
I was hiking with my friend Megan back in April, and we came to a fork in the trail. The signs were old and weathered. We were not sure which way to go. So we stopped, shared a sugary snack, and pulled out the map. That break gave us space to talk, laugh, and notice the quiet beauty around us. If we had rushed, we would have missed it.
The same is true with writing.
Sometimes the best thing you can do is pause. Take a breath. Read something else. Zoom out and look at the bigger picture. The mountain will still be there.
Then, when you are ready, forgive yourself for being human. Return to your screen, your notebook, or your voice recorder, and keep going.
You are not behind. You are building something that will outlast you. Keep climbing.
If you need a little boost to help you start and keep writing, enjoy the free guide my team and I created just for you.
